Permanent birth control options consist of bilateral tubal ligation and bilateral salpingectomy (complete removal of the fallopian tubes). These procedures are typically performed via laparoscopy or at the time of a cesarean section. Recent literature has favored the complete removal of the fallopian tubes (salpingectomy) for sterilization as it has shown to decrease the overall life-time risk of ovarian cancer in women.
